Henna's Perfect Day

A little journal on self-care, mental health and life!

Journaling: How is it done?

January 27, 2021

Journaling is essentially the art of self expression.

But what is its true essence?

Well, journaling isn’t necessarily about emotional expression, its the expression of ourselves through every possible way.

This art can be chanelled through a number of different styles.

Below show a few styles of journaling which, I think, round up its true form.

1- Writing Journal

To simply write.

pen to paper.

A flow of words and phrases is all you need to express yourself. Whether it makes sense or not, it really doesn’t matter.

It’s great for those who have writer’s block. The constant flow of words can ease this metaphorical blockage, encouraging their natural flow of creativity.

This isn’t just for writers alone, its for me and you. It’s your personalised haven. Song lyrics, jokes, creative writing, diary entries and so much more.

2- Bullet Journal

I bet you’ve heard of this style a number of times before. If not, then hello and welcome to the organisational side of journaling.

It’s perfect for those who write, spreads and charts to organise the essentials of their life such as, prayer times, money budgets, meal prep, and waves upon waves of lists.

It’s a practical method, as it’s able to group all your organised spreads, tables and lists, into a single notebook/pad.

It is essentially a personalised life planner, and can be very useful to those who want a sense of control over their lives.

Yet a major weakness of this method is its constant need for updates on spreads and schedules. After all, it’s not digital.

3- Travel Journal

This is for those travel enthusiasts, who write down their ideas and plan their holidays all on paper.

It’s a very useful resource, helping you to note down the restaurants and museums to visit while you’re at your holiday destination. This type of journaling can be uploaded to the internet, helping other travelers to make the most of their holidays around the world.

Some entries can be descriptive, and some informative.

Mix it up!!

4- Pocket Journaling

This is a great way to jot anything down which you need to do or remember whilst you’re on the go.

That’s really it. Simple isn’t it!

A pocket journal isn’t that big either, just keep in your bag or pocket wherever you may go.

It’s an easy way to start getting into the concept of journaling.

The subtle incorporation of writing will do you wonders in the future, as well as acting as a mental “de-stresser” for you.

Now I know I’ve only listed four there, but believe me, there’s so much more out there. I’ll touch on them as the series progresses, but for now, I hope you enjoyed this post and tune in for future posts!! x
