It’s another day, the sun has risen and its golden rays peak around the curtains, gently waking you up. Open the window and let the cool morning breeze energise you as you rub the sleep from your eyes. The kettle’s on boil, the steam escapes into the atmosphere, followed by the aroma of coffee, making you feel complete…
The small snippet above is an insight of what it means to be mindful, i.e. To do things slowly and to connect your senses to the task at hand.
To be mindful is to draw your focus to the NOW, not the future or past. It’s about escaping the bombardment of social media and giving attention to your OWN life. It’s the art of living, where the focus is on you and what you want to accomplish today. There are many mindful activities like, Yoga, Pilates, Meditation, Aromatherapy etc, which help you to mute the rush of thoughts in your mind and gently bring your attention to present time. It’s the little things that are done mindfully, which help you to feel calm and at peace with yourself.
Its power is especially effective in stressful situations, where the tension and chaotic state of your mind is unbearable. So what do you do? It’s simple, just breathe. Connect your thoughts to every inhale and exhale, and imagine each breath grab a handful of your tension and take it away. You’ll notice a change, the tension has fallen and you can finally clear away your thoughts. This is another example of being mindful, especially on the go.
Developing hobbies are also a simple trigger to fall into a calm state of mind, like painting or reading or perhaps cloud watching. Watch as each stroke of paint is swiped on a blank canvas, or imagine yourself in a world rich in adventure as you get lost in the words of a book. Or how about letting your child-like instincts come out to play as you watch the clouds form into shapes.
Being mindful is a beautiful way of life. Indulge in the simplicity of life and you’ll soon see a change in the way you think and feel. Live each day in a state of Calm, Peace, and Happiness. xxx
